OMRDD
(office of Mental
Retardation and Development Disability)
This agency is the primary source of services and
information for the care of the disabled. It's responsibility for providing
services usually begins at age twenty-one. Recently they have coordinated some
services for people with PWS as early as infancy. There is a PWS Coordinator
responsible for the coordination of services to people with PWS whose telephone
# is 518 473 6255.
Within OMRDD there is the Division of Quality
Assurance whose responsibility it is to see that all programs provided by OMRDD
meet the highest standards of quality.

MHA
(Mental Health Association of New York
State)
This site provides information on legislature, news, advocacy,
outreach, and prevention. There are also links to state MHA affiliates and other
online resources. Their Information Center provides free fact sheets on many
mental health issues. The National Consumer Supporter Technical Assistance
Center provides assistance to mental health consumer supporter organizations
across the country.
DDPC
(Developmental Disabilities Planning Council)
This agency is a primary source of grant money
for projects directly or indirectly affecting the health and welfare of people
with disabilities
DDSO
(Developmental Disabilities Service Offices)
There are fifteen DDSO's throughout NYS each of
them resposible for the services provided to the disabled within their
geographic area of responsibility. Each DDSO has a PWS Coordinator who can
assist you in your search for services.
VESID (Vocational
and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities)
VESID's resposibility is to promote educational
equity and excellence for students with disabilities while ensuring that they
receive the rights and protection to which they are entitled; assure appropriate
continuity between the child and adult services systems; and provide the highest
quality vocational rehabilitation and independent living services to all
eligible persons as quickly as those services are required to enable them to
work and live independent, self-directed lives.
